Trump tariffs hit the “Nintendo Switch 2” pricing strategy.
They started accepting orders in Japan and the U.S.

　Pre-orders for Nintendo’s new game console “Nintendo Switch 2” began in earnest on the 24th in the two major markets in Japan and the United States. In the U.S., it was originally scheduled to start on the 9th, but it was postponed to assess the tariff policy of the Trump administration. It will go on sale on June 5th. The tariff issue has cast a shadow over the company’s strategy for the new model, on which the fate of the company is at stake. 

 Lottery reservations began on this day at electronics retailers in Japan, and it also started in the United States. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa revealed on social media the night before that about 2.2 million people applied for the lottery sale on the company’s official mail-order site in Japan alone. “We will further strengthen our production system.” 　As for home video game consoles, the suggested retail price of the Sony Group’s PS (PlayStation) 5 Pro has exceeded 100,000 yen, and the price is increasing. Nintendo’s strategy is to prioritize popularization first with the Switch 2 at “the expected affordable price” (President Furukawa).
